There are many shops and restaurants in Bali Kuta, behind luxury hotels, along narrow alleyways you can only reach on foot or maybe motorbike. These hubs are busy all day long until late at night at least for eateries. Most of these places also offer lower prices, the further away you get from the main street or beach, the more local and cheap they get.
We already describe restaurants in Kuta, Seminyak and also Sanur and exclusive and high end clubs with unique vibes and menus. On this page here we would like to show you smaller eateries, along alleyways that are frequented equally by locals and foreign tourists and have made themselves a name for good food and service.
Situated in a little alley off the main Kuta Beach Street. This of course is a Mexican themed restaurant with a mixture of Latin American and Balinese interior. Lots of tropical foliage, bird cages, fishpond with water feature, wood, bamboo and rattan furniture. The bar is prominent and well stocked. This is a well loved hang out place.
This very local restaurant has evolved and is now frequented by many foreigners too because of the low prices and Indonesian and international menu items. Do not expect five star services; but the food was good. As you can see in the picture; these businesses are cramped into small spaces and sometimes encroach on each other. We were able to window shop while waiting for our food.
Kathy insisted that we have breakfast at this new place. You have to walk to it through a narrow alley with only parking for a few motorbikes; it looks like a local ‘warung’. Tourists sit on the few barstools along the tall counter top and chat. Kathy took me upstairs along a tiny staircase to the second floor.
The space still is not big but it is open and shaded by the most fantastic, simple bamboo construction I have seen. Hanging plants, comfortable sofas, long tables, bar stools, big paintings and staff who have friendly chats with their customers give it a unique vibe. We ordered the Nalu Bowls that are served in recycled coconut shells. The big secret is chilled Yogurt seasoned in my case with ginger and topped with fruit of your choice and Granola. This is truly fusion, Balinese locale and very healthy international chow.
If you stay in an apartment kind of accommodation the restaurants above offer affordable and delicious food. We have visited some cool and budget friendly accommodation.
