The Nusa Dua Bali Beach Resort with its many luxury hotels is located on the most Southern part of Bali, the peninsula Benoa. It is very dry and arid land but has prominent yellow sandy beaches on the Western Side. After Sanur and Kuta beaches were getting crowded and traffic on the small streets overwhelming the government decided to design and construct a stylish resort exclusively catering for tourists.
A huge split gate leads into this international looking complex. The streets are smooth and wide, there is plenty of green space, and the hotels lined up along the beaches have beautiful tropical gardens. There are more than 100 different kinds of accommodations catering to every budget and wish. There is an 18 hole golf course, one of Asia's 5 best (Fortune Magazine - USA) within this huge compound. Even the shopping complex is not the Balinese market ; it is designed with crowds and creature comforts in mind.
You will not find the typical Balinese street vendors offering meat ball soups or vegetables or plastic toys here either. Outside the gate though, many warungs local eateries and souvenir shops have sprung up now. There is a shuttle bus taking visitors around the whole area; taxis or car rentals can also be ordered directly from the hotels.
The first hotel that was built was Hotel Nusa Dua; and my husband was proud to sell this modern and stunning accommodation through Garuda to international tourists wherever we were posted. We stayed in this typical Balinese and yet luxurious hotel every year during our holidays until… It was ‘given’ to the Sultan of Brunei in exchange for a gambling debt the youngest son of the then president of Indonesia incurred. My husband was shattered.
We recently went back to the Nusa Dua beach, while staying in a hotel in Kuta. All beaches in Indonesia are public. At the end of the shopping center Bali Collections is a way that leads straight to the beach. There are facilities, toilets and showers built by the government but they were closed because of lack of clean water; so we were told. We ordered lunch at the Pirates Bay Bali Restaurant that sits right on the beach and were allowed to use their shower facilities reserved exclusively for their pirates after playing.
The wide, long and clean beaches are the reason this fabulous resort was built. Once you are inside one of these stunning hotels, you do not need to leave anymore. You have everything you could possibly want for a relaxing and entertaining vacation. Water sport, tennis, spas and other amenities are offered by most accommodations. The Westin Resort, Grand Hyatt, The St. Regis, Conrad Bali, Hotel Club Med, Nikko, Novotel , are just some famous names in hospitality you find here. There are also up-and-coming local brands that deserve to be mentioned here: The Mulia, Inaya Putri Bali, Nusa Dua Beach Resort&Spa, The Segara Condotel and many more.
Nusa Dua is also known as the biggest and best convention destination or MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). If Bali is offered as destination, many participants are happy to attend.
There is of course also a negative side. Nusa Dua Bali is very far from other attractions, except the ones built in Benoa, for example the GWK that presents Balinese culture and some of their most famous dances. To drive to the center, the mountains for example Ubud or/and all the way to the North Singaraja is very far. The transfer to and from the airport is about half hour.

Bali cheap hotels can be found anywhere on this island of the gods. Kathy and I stayed at 18 Suit Villa & Loft in Kuta and saw a quaint little bungalow hotel nearby.
