This is a yearly event hosted on the island of Java, not Bali; Indonesia leisure Prambanan Jazz features national and international artists in a beautiful ancient Hindu temple complex in the royal city of Jogjakarta/Yogyakarta. Yes there are also beautiful hotels here, similar to Bali but not that many; this is a perfect excursion to discover another island.
Indonesia leisure Prambanan Jazz is a two day event giving national and international artists a chance to present on different stages. We arrived at Prambanan temple right at sunset and while we exchanged our e-ticket with the real thing we heard our favorite singer Rio Febrian perform in the distance.
Sadly we could not sing and dance along with his tunes. But we knew that we were still in for a treat with all the lineup of musicians still to come. While sitting on the lawn and eating our dinner purchased from one of the many food tents, we enjoyed the tunes of Indonesian bands Shaggy Dog and Trio Lestari performing on the side stage of the temple.
Finally it was time to move to the main stage with the different temple structures as back drop and settle down for the international performers. Rick Price did deliver; the crowed knew his songs and joined in and sang along. Boys II Men were the reason Kathy and I and many others decided to come this year. Their voices and arrangements are absolutely mind blowing and they also know how to please their fans. In the middle of their stage time, they distributed roses to the front row spectators and toward the end the whole audience was made to sing and answer to their lead. Great show guys!

Dompi in Dr & The Professor together with Sruti, presented a jazz collaboration with an awesome lady pianist and a Sinden (a traditional Javanese singer). The old song Bujangan came to life again in a new way and was a definite crowd pleaser. They all are exceptional musicians. We could sense their commitment to music and the same time the fun and fulfillment they get from a composition well executed.
We were so lucky and happy to have had the sense to rent a car with driver straight from the airport to the hotel then to Prambanan for this great Jazz festival and back to the hotel again in the middle of the night. We did not have to search for a parking space when arriving and a lost car at the end of the night. We were also surprised to realize that we would have been in troubles without it; there were no taxis available at the venue to get back.
All in all we were really happy to have spent the time and investment to come to Jogjakarta/Yogyakarta and experience a really outstanding jazz concert featuring national and international artists staged in an ancient and historical temple. Indonesia leisure Prambanan Jazz was a rolling success at least in our eyes.
Jogjakarta is an important town, the capital of the special region of Yogyakarta; an ancient seat of power and royalty. Today it also is a university town and a center for artists. There are many things to do and explore. Tom and Fithri like the Hotel Green Host, and went river rafting. Kathy and I stayed at GQ Hotel Yogyakarta because it was close by the airport and Indonesia leisure Prambanan Jazz.
