This time around I wanted to experience a Best Western hotel Kuta Bali! We have rarely passed more than a few hours of shopping or eating and the beach for the sunset in Kuta or Legian. Our preferred places were Nusa Dua and Sanur. Now I wanted to be in the thick of it and discover what this tourist place really has to offer.
The little alleys winding to the back toward Jalan Legian house some pretty amazing restaurants, hotels and shops as well. This is the heart beat of Kuta, this is where it all happens. And this is where I wanted to spend some time. I wanted to stay in a more budget friendly place in the second row; and see how it feels there. We got a very good deal, something I saw in the in-flight magazine when I traveled to Bali: pay one night get two.
Kathy and I did explore some of the hotels
right on the main street that runs along the famous beach. This is prime real
estate and there are some grandiose hotels here like Hard Rock, Kuta Beach
Heritage, Kuta Seaview, Surf School and many more. You can also find a mall and
famous chain restaurants like Pizza Hut, KFC, Mc Donald’s, Starbucks, Tony
Roma’s Bali, and many local ones too.
The friendly Assistant Front Office Manager
of Best Western, Jl Benesari, Pantai Kuta, Ibu Alit Martini from Kelungkung, enlightened me concerning their
system; although it is ‘THE WORLD’S LARGEST HOTEL CHAIN’, the hotels themselves
are owned and managed locally with quality control and standard of service checks every 6 months. That means that the service should be
outstanding (following the American standard) while the design and products
have a Balinese character. Great, that is what I am looking for; ‘good grades
and a memorable stay’.
It amazes me again and again what architects and designers can do with small plots of land. This hotel is definitely maximizing all the space it has got. The rooms are arranged along a corridor that winds around a very narrow inner garden. We had a window but with not much of a view and unique curtains, a yellow and a purple panel.
The room is really tiny but arranged very very well; we even had a good size table to eat or write on. There was a coffee/tea maker, even a makeup mirror and a hair dryer with the usual bathroom products that we expect today. The milk glass door was again dual purpose to either close the shower cubical that protruded into the room or the ‘loo’.
The beautiful swimming pool sits on the roof top right next to the generous bar. The comfortable couches invite to linger and this is where we sipped our welcome drink while enjoying the sun set. From up there you can see a part of the beach; part is blocked by the front row buildings. Breakfast is served as an international buffet with an egg station. The coffee is not great; I was looking forward to a typical Bali coffee that is strong (the spoon can almost stand in the cup) and full of flavor, this one is American; sorry not my liking.
Kuta Beach is a few minutes’ walk away; just over the main street with surf schools and shops lending or renting boards. Please follow the guidelines of the safe guards; this beach can be quite dangerous with lots of undercurrents. All in all we can really recommend this hotel Kuta Bali.
