In olden days and to some extend still today some Bali sports water were and are available right in front of the hotels in Sanur and Kuta, the most visited beaches. Kuta is the surf beach. Because of the undercurrents that can be quite strong and at times towering waves, other sports are difficult to offer there on a regular basis.
Sanur beach has a reef a hundred meters or so out which makes it a safe beach. Here you will never have high waves. At low tide the space between the reef and the beach is empty and fishermen and tourist look for stranded fish or shellfish. During high tide, fishermen rent out their outrigger boats for short trips. Speed boats pull parachutists and some people use jet skis too.
Today the action of Bali sports water is at Beno, a peninsula off Nusa Dua in the south of Bali. Along the main street Jalan Pratama you can find many quite luxurious hotels next to water sport organizers; there are many of them and the competition seems to be fierce. Their business location is on the beach, and you can change cloth, shower, rest, eat and drink on their premises.
If you go there by yourself you will be ‘aggressively pursued’; therefore I suggest that you call them beforehand to pick you up in your hotel. Brochures are everywhere, at your hotel lobby, and in tourist information booth around Bali. Most of these enterprises offer similar sports and also are similar in price. Pay attention to the small print like how about insurance, use of equipment and time slots.
For some of the activities, you will be taken by boat to a location further out at sea, where you can see more varieties of fish; this is especially true for
Along the Benoa Peninsula you will find plenty of luxurious hotels right on the beach. There are also more budget friendly accommodations in the back streets. We also recommend all the hotels inside the Nusa Dua Complex, they are all very close by.
We visited: Nikki hotel; The Westin; Inaya Putri Bali; and our longtime favorite Hotel Nusa Dua Bali
Opposite the Beno peninsula is Benoa harbor and along the main road Jalan Pelebuhan Benoa you can find the first and only cable Wake Park in Bali at this point in time. It is close to Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua and also Sanur.
This is a full size cable system operated water park; located on a manmade lake is able to pull 8 riders to enjoy this quite new water sport at the same time. Since it is a square the speed of the cable will slow down just before the corner and speed up after it, one needs to get used to sudden jerk. If you are advanced you may use the jumps and other obstacles.
If you lose the handle and fall, swim to
the edge and a golf buggy will pick you up and bring you back to the starting
point. Prices are charged per hour. Equipment is available including life
vests, single and double water skis, knee boards etc. The younger and older,
beginners and pros we observed had plenty of fun.
For the less active company the park offers food and drinks, a pool bar, massage, a pro shop; there is something for everyone.
Have fun with all these different activities together with friends and family; leave us a note on how you enjoyed them here!
Canggu another surf beach? In Kuta you can join a surf camp.
Visit all the beaches in Bali and after all the activities here are some suggestions for evening action and also restaurants and other things to do in Bali
