Sanur Bali Indonesia the
First International Tourist Beach

Sanur Bali Indonesia was also the first tourist resort with and international hotel, the Bali Beach. Since then many more centers on beaches, hotels and other accommodations have been developed. I had the opportunity to first come here more than thirty years ago when Sanur was already a well known and established destination with many four star hotels along it’s beach. Many still exist today, have been renovated and upgraded and some have been replaced by newer more modern accommodation.

Maybe because this is the safest beach on the whole island, Sanur was the it target for development. There is a reef about 100 m from the beach; therefore you will not have dangerous undercurrents and huge waves like on the Kuta side. It also means that during low tide there is no water in this lagoon; you can go for a walk as do the locals and catch things.

If you are tiered of the beach; go for a game of golf. The 9 hole golf course is situated a few steps from the beach, just behind Bali Beach Hotel, easily accessible from anywhere in Sanur.  A beautiful club house lets you relax before or after your game. Of course you can order international foods and drinks.

Luxury Hotels and Resorts Galore

This long beach has plenty of luxurious and big plots along its side. Since I can remember Sanur Bali Indonesia had and still has the ultimate choice of beautiful beach resorts. The more modern counterpart now is Nusa Dua. They were mostly four star accommodations but felt like five or even six star in those days.

Today still it is an experience to spend some days here. The swimming pools are right on the beach and comfortable chaise longs sit on the yellow sand or lush lawn under shade giving trees, and are watched over by security guards since all beaches in Indonesia are public. Tropical drinks and international food can be brought to your chair by friendly waiters dressed in batik sarongs and Balinese head decorations.

Coconut palm trees sway in the wind next to fragrant Frangipani and Hibiscus. Your modern rooms have all amenities, air conditioning, luxurious bathrooms and comfortable bedding and sofas and lookout over the ocean or well groomed gardens with fish or duck ponds. Breakfast buffets in these hotels are very international; you can find delicacies from East to West.

Most of the hotels, at least the older ones do have a stage with a temple gate exclusively for Balinese dance performances. In the afternoon a truck with instruments, dancers and helpers will arrive at the back gate. The dancers apply expressive make up and done colorful and exotic looking costumes. During these shows you will have the opportunity to taste typical food, a Balinese Rice Tafel.

I came across an interesting Indonesian Cultural Procession, here the video on YouTube so you can see other videos too and here is the short video on Sindhu beach a part of Sanur beach, or watch them on this page.

Sanur Bali Indonesia; The Long Sandy Beach

Let’s get back to the beach. Along the whole length, from the first Hotel Bali Beach until down to Sanur Beach Hotel and even further there is a walkway. People jog on it, ride their bikes, walk their dogs and shop… Yes, there are plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, offerings for sports activities and much more.
